When New Year rolls around we tend to do two things:
1. Reflect on how the previous year passed.
2. Changes to make next year.
Looking back here’s a few things I picked up from the wonderful 2017:
Loving and growing my Instagram handle: 2017 introduced @styleandlatte into my life. Having organically grown from 100 followers in January to 10K+ in December, I learned the importance of treating your handle as your brand. What would you do to make it admired by most? How would you modify content in order to grow and flourish? As your brand, you want it to be appreciated within and outside your network — so coming off a likable reflection of your thought process is key. You modify based on audience behavior, yet not losing your identity at the same time.
Quality rules. Hands down! It’s better to produce great products than multiple whatevers. This ties down to my instagram handle too – if content doesn’t fit up to my standard, I’m better off not using it. In life this can’t be any truer. As I’ve grown older I realized that it’s better to have a handful of amazing friends than a lot of meaningless people around you. Which leads on to my next point.
Get rid of the void. If it’s not making a difference in my life, it’s not needed at all! This applies to everything – from people to hobby and even an object from the past. I learned to not let things that drag me down or demotivate me linger around – chances are they won’t be adding to my growth anytime soon.
I am extremely important and, quite honestly, a game changer. Confidence is key — to the point of “faking it till you make it.” When we reach the mindset of “I’m actually a big deal”, our outlook on tackling problems and approaching situations change in a positive way.
Trends are good, but personal statement is key. I learned to find and love my style with a lot of confidence. Trends are like accessories, they never make the look, but rather help completing it.
Travels make all the difference. The world has a lot of experiences to offer – and staying within our habitat can only let us explore so much. Every time we experience something different, our mind opens up just a little more. It’s a great way to learn and build character without trying too hard!
Routine is good, but being rigid doesn’t take you too far. That’s one thing I had a hard time learning. Being a person who loves a routine, spontaneity was never my favorite department. Thanks to wonderful people in my life and my keenness to grow, I realized that routine hinders our opportunity to experience new things in life. Without newness growth and excitement are at a bare minimum.
Don’t compare yourself to others- our times never align and it’s ok. Fact!
Lastly, the best thing to remember is failure from taking a risk is much less harsher than the regret of not acting at all. Trying is a good chunk of the job done. As Zig Ziglar would say “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”
