If you read the title and went “Really? How is that such a hard thing to do?”, I envy you! Truth be told I was nervous about kicking off this weekly challenge series, so I picked my first challenge to be tangible, and yet a huge challenge regardless.
I’ll be honest working out is a challenge for me – the consistency part is what gets me. So this challenge was to hold myself accountable, not just to me, but to all my readers and followers. Oh wow I could not have messed this up!
What the 5 days looked like:
Day 1 (Monday): Great weather! So I went to my favorite park in the city for a 45 minute run (mixed with light jogs and walks as well). My watch indicated I burned 450 calories. Not bad!
Day 2: I had a busy day and early start at work. So had to squeeze in a power yoga session in between work and my evening event. I created the sequence in my head, since I remember a little bit from the training I still had in me (fun fact: I used to be a yoga instructor back in college!). However one of my favorite videos to follow can be found on Youtube.
Day 3: Woke up at 6am and used my Nike Training Club to kill the ‘Boxer Burner’ and “Quick Core Crush” workouts. Got my heartbeat up, and managed to burn about 400 calories.
Day 4: Woke up at 5:30am, in an exceptionally cold morning, to make it to the kickboxing class. It was one of those mornings I laid awake, wanting to go back to sleep (knowing my blanket will never leave my side if I don’t want it to). That was an experience, and post-workout I realized how amazing morning workouts feel. Burned about 500 calories as well!
Day 5: Long day! I was so close to the finish line, but my brain wanted to skip. But I knew everyone’s watching me get there, so I chugged some coffee and mustered up the energy to go for a run!
What did I get out of this challenge?
Consistency. Again, I have it in me to be consistent! This practice is not just with workouts, it can be interpreted in all aspects of life.
A+ Mood, energy and health. I definitely was more productive, more energized, in better mood, had more positive thoughts and even had longer ‘restful sleep’ hours.
Made healthier choices. Opted to make smoothies and even remembered to take my vitamins!
Felt important, and that’s big. Since I was challenging myself, I also gave myself top priority when planning the day. Not my job, not my passion, not the people I love – but me!
To sum it up, these 5 days not only acted like a test, but also therapy sessions. I realized my potential and the idea that I can do whatever I set my mind to!
I only worked out within my sport before (used to dance) but I just hate to run/powerwalk or be at a gym. I think it’s so boring, and I hate to sweat 😂 need to find a sport again
