Weekly Challenge: I Went 5 Days Without Makeup

Ok, so for starters I’m not a BIG fan of makeup. For me, it’s more like a way to look put together. And of course, not look tired or angry (yes believe me I got that asked before as well)! Not only that, a lot of my self esteem is attached to how my face looks (the more put together I look, the happier I am). But then there’s also that (oh so good) feeling of makeup off your face and skin breathing. Wow, I’m torn even as I write this!

Don’t be fooled. That’s me with way more makeup than I typically like!

So here’s what I wanted to achieve/find out:

  1. Do I have good skin? Can I feel pretty without makeup?
  2. Does no makeup help me become more comfortable/confident about how my skin looks?
  3. Will it help improve my skin?
  4. Can I save time getting ready?

So here are the steps I took:

  1. Let my friends know what I was venturing out to and that they should not ask this magical question – “are you tired?”
  2. Made sure my face was clean from unwanted facial hair.
  3. Focus a lot more on skin care.
  4. Tinted Balm to give me a little color on my pigmented lips.
  5. Use a Jade Roller to de-puff my face.
  6. And of course, sunglasses whenever or wherever I need them.

What I learned:

First and foremost, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Ok, but in all seriousness, it’s amazing how happy the skin on our face get when no makeup is being applied on. Truth is, although I enjoyed the first few days of no makeup (and yes, saving so much time), it kind of got boring for me. I realized I was not too enthusiastic about dressing nicely or even getting on my Instagram stories to talk to my followers.

I honestly realized how much (even at a minimum) makeup plays a role in masking us with confidence. While the skin at least needs a day to breathe and recover, it’s also key to realize what sparks joy and helps to get out there!
