Style and Latte focus: White Blazers

There are certain pieces in our wardrobes we cannot survive without (denim jacket and sunglasses anyone?). And there are those that it’s ok to live without, but why should we? My relationship with the good ol’ white blazer is somewhat of the latter.  Often loved, never embraced. Some say it’s too fancy, while others might not be too confident with white.

For me, blazers in general are challenging to purchase. I wouldn’t want anything too fitted, neither can I afford to be swallowed in my clothes. There needs to be a fine balance. As someone who goes through the several challenges of petite-ship, I garnered some tips on wearing white blazer.

First and foremost, figure out your fabric and your occasion: For a more casual vibe, I opt for less-stiffer material (like cotton, rayon or even linen) and do not pay much attention to how well fitted it is. What I pair it with ranges from a fitted dress to skinny jeans. For formal, I look for a little for structure and the material should have a glossier and wrinkle free finish. With these I try to make sure the sleeves are not too long or too baggy. The instant way to make any blazers look casual is to roll up the sleeves.

Fabric: just like the fabric outside, the lining inside makes a difference too. This honestly focuses more on formal blazers. A pet peeve of mine is when the arm lining is not in-sync with the blazer and the fabric keeps shifting around inside.

Color: Stick to one pop of color/area of attraction- don’t overdo it. White is a different kind of neutral, it grabs attention while being compatible with most colors. So amidst neutrals it is the loudest. With too many bright colors/prints, it might look like I have too much going on. The colors I love to pair my white blazers are black, blue, beige or even mint.

Pumps are your best friend: There is something about blazer and pumps in general that portray confidence. The kind of confidence that makes me get things done.

Draping: The drape has to be just right. I personally am more comfortable with a little more attention away from my bust area, but of course show what I’m wearing underneath as well.

Some of the ones I’ve sported are sold out, but I’ve linked a few ones I like (from some of my go-to stores)!
