Shy Girl’s Guide to Being Creative

It’s quite funny how we’re first to assume that person dressed so edgy is an extrovert, and is never afraid to get him or herself out there. To be honest, if that was true, there wouldn’t be many fashionable people out there. And yes this world would be somewhat boring.

Ok, now that we’re talking, I’ll let you in a secret – I grew up rather shy. My creativity was often shunned by my lack of confidence, the doubt that I would be making a fool of myself. Looking back, I smile knowing how far I’ve come and acknowledge how much further I have to go. So, if you’re anything like me, here’s a couple of pointers to take away!

  1. Don’t doubt yourself: Self doubt is a killer. Know you’re worth more than you think, and you can do anything you set your mind to.
  2. Play dress-up: Experiment with different looks, outfits and style can pin point what works for you and what does not. Remember trial and error perfects the craft. Same goes with colors and patterns- find the sweet spot.
  3. Find inspiration: I can never stress enough on the power of finding inspiration! Whether its a new book, podcast or even your favorite Instagram blogger – try to learn something and incorporate that.
  4. Take pictures to document your look: Seeing yourself through the lens lets you see yourself from someone else’s point of view, which in turn gives you the peace of mind of how you look stunning!
  5. Take care of your body: Cut back on junk food and get workouts in. It’s amazing what a huge difference happy bodies can make.
  6. Socialize and force yourself out there: attending networking events/socials and meeting like minded people are help us calm our nerves and take that shyness away. When I started blogging, this was a great help for me to get over my shy side.
  7. Humor: My favorite part! Life without humor is like the sea without waves – it’s just not fun!
  8. Get out of your comfort zone: This is key! I wrote about this before (read this if you haven’t), and will definitely be talking about it several other times.
  9. Start small: Whether it be sharing silly things and talking on Instagram Story, or adding a simply pop of bright color to your outfit. Baby steps!
  10. Get friends that support you: Or just friends who you can act silly around, Now this takes me back to the ‘trial and error’ concept. Don’t be scared to reach out to people you think might make cool company. Trust me, contrary to popular belief, there’s nothing creepy about it.

    • Haha I hear ya girl! It is a little nerve-wrecking, but once you get started you only get better at it with time! Good Luck! xo

  1. Lovely tips dear, and I couldn’t agree more, especially on 10th. Too many times we forget there are people out there who are actually more than willing to help, listen, and motivate you.

  2. I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was curious what all is required to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very internet smart so I’m not 100 certain. Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
