Chic – the term that wraps around elegance and style. Being chic is defined as being stylish. Plain and simple. This post talks about how chic is a thought process. It’s not about how much I spend or maintain certain aspects about myself – it is about the trust and positive vision I hold.
Now, this is not a ‘how-to’ post, rather my honest take on what makes you and I chic. Some tricks I learned as I grew up everyday — mentally and fashionably. Here are my top 10:
1. Know yourself, dig deep. This is the most important and possibly the most time consuming to some. Any cloud of doubt needs to go. For me it was going through a lot of trials and errors. Drop-dead gorgeous is overrated, but what’s not is the confidence to be one of a kind. One of a kind is priceless.
2. Know, believe and you’re halfway there. As Zig Ziglar would say “a goal properly set is halfway set” – when you think you’re already getting it done. The way I walk, smile or even think should ooze the confidence I have in me and my style. When I have the confidence I feel stylish regardless.
3. Find inspiration. Not just from Pinterest or magazines, but everywhere. For me the best sources come from the ordinary, for instance my workplace. Having a client-focused job, and interacting with coworkers everyday – I analyze and appreciate style from everyone. It’s amazing how much wonder visual presentations work. I find some things more special or interesting when associated with certain people or feelings.
4. Be humble. They say graciousness is like a precious jewelry – the simplest and rarest kind of class. Flaunt it, because it’s mine and only mine!
5. Find key pieces you can’t live without. For me, its definitely my denim jacket, heels and unlimited supply of black tops. Staple accessories for me are my nose stud, simple watch and emerald ring. Those are things I automatically think of when I define my style.
6. Elaborating on key pieces, love those that fit. Being under 5 feet, this is especially true for me! I kill for jeans that fit EVERYWHERE (trust me its a war every time!). A good jacket always has a special place in my heart, alongside a pretty lbd!
7. Walk and talk as if your presence makes a difference. Trust me, it does.
8. Strike a pose.
9. Take care of your body. Now, this is different for everyone. It’s good to test and figure out what makes us happy physically and mentally. I stick to a vegetarian diet and yoga as they create the perfect environment for my body to be 100% and my brain lets me know I’m happy and confident.
10. Remember – you’re not perfect, none of us are. It’s ok, perfect is overrated and unwanted!
At the end of the day, style is an art and being stylish is a state of mind. I end this small talk by saying ‘Think chic and be chic!’
As always, be sure to enjoy the coffee you’ve been holding while reading this!
